In a secluded area of Lacombe, Louisiana, the cast of Last Resort prepared to shoot an intense, frightening scene in which their killer hunts them down. Mixed with practical special effects and makeup effects, the film is sure to keep the audience on the edge of their seats, jumping and squinting.
At the helm of all this is Chris Moore, the well known producer of Project Greenlight, and of such films as American Pie and Good Will Hunting. But this time around Moore is making his directorial debut.
The film is about a group of close friends who visit a remote vacation home to celebrate their college graduation. While there, a mysterious killer forces them into a horrifying game where they must kill each other in order to survive. The project stars Agnes Bruckner, Patrick Flueger, Teddy Dunn, Ryanne Duzich, Theo Rossi, Daniel Franzese, and Taryn Manning.
Director of photography David Armstrong composes the scenes, working with an almost completely Louisiana crew. Known for his work on the Saw features, Armstrong is no stranger to the type of horror thriller Moore was creating. And on their third Louisiana picture, Disturbing Images Effects created all the blood and makeup effects.
"We have been doing some really cool effects on this shoot," said Jonathan Thornton of Disturbing Images, "from body casting, to bullet hits to the head, working together with David Nami on the practical end of effects and stunt coordinator, Jeff Galpin."
Last Resort is the first of a series of productions being produced by Element Films and LIFT Films with distribution through Lionsgate.
"It’s very exciting to see these productions come together," said Morris Bart, producing partner of LIFT Films. "Our young cast had been doing an amazing job working numerous consecutive nights. I feel the movie has a very marketable look and we should see a good response with its release in 2007."
Moderate budget features like Last Resort see the most return when filming in Louisiana, and taking advantage of our tax incentives and local film infrastructure.
